In 2007, two Reuters reporters were brutally murdered in Iraq. A video of the murders has just been released. The individuals who committed the murders are known, but no charges have been filed, nor will they ever be filed. The video is graphic and shocking.

Torture is a war crime. Prosecution of those who authorized and committed acts of torture is a constitutional obligation, not an option.

The Senate Armed Services Committee report explains the implications:

The abuse of detainees in U.S. custody cannot simply be attributed to the actions of "a few bad apples" acting on their own. The fact is that senior officials in the United States government solicited information on how to use aggressive techniques, redefined the law to create the appearance of their legality, and authorized their use against detainees. Those efforts damaged our ability to collect accurate intelligence that could save lives, strengthened the hand of our enemies and compromised our moral authority.

The RNC Protest And Issue Free Zone

A place where cultural warriors, characters assassins, and truth stretchers are welcome. Protesters will be arrested. Issues will be ignored. Community organizers will be insulted. Such a grand old (and mostly white) party. Completely out of touch.

Arresting Democracy

Amy Goodman, a nationally syndicated journalist with Democracy NOW, and two of her producers were arrested outside the Republican National Convension in St. Paul on Monday, September 1st. Democracy NOW! is a daily international TV/radio news hour airing on more than 700 stations in North America. Their crime: trying to report on the massive protests outside the RNC. Freedom of the what? Not any more. The youtube video of the illegal arrest was the most watched video on Wednesday.

The Rule Of What?

Maintaining the "rule of law" is a critical element in keeping our democracy alive. You would think the Department Of Justice would know better that to act illegally in their hiring practices. Think again. There's only one thing to do. Bring the law breakers to justice. (In case you don't know, the only way that is going to happen is through impeachment.)
